One-stop Source of Information Helps Busy Montreal Parents

The Kid Scoop, the largest local database of information for busy Montreal parents, tailors relevant information and activities for families and children.

"It's like having a concierge service come right to your inbox every month," says Cindy Fagen, President and co-founder of The Kid Scoop, an Internet site that provides families with a single, free-of-charge reference for children's activities, classes, programs and events in Montreal and coming soon, in Toronto.

"The Kid Scoop is part of the new generation of intelligent websites that provide parents with useable information geared to their specific family's needs," Fagen explains. Each month The Kid Scoop's e-newsletter, the Scoop Update, provides members with targeted information matched only to the interests of their family.

The Kid Scoop is the website of choice for busy Montreal parents with over 8,000 activities in its e-directory. The bilingual site, launched in June 2009, boasts over 145,000 visitors annually and more than 6,000 members who tap into the one-stop information source.

According to customer feedback, the Scoop Update is one of the most popular features of the website.

"Every website in the family space wants your email address to send you a free newsletter. We go a step further and provide you with value-added content so you don't have to sift through articles and information that may not be relevant to your family," Fagen explains.

Visitors to The Kid Scoop website are invited to become members for free and provide key information about their children's activity interests, their ages, and the location or neighborhood. The Kid Scoop's software then delivers a customized activity plan to the parent, with a selection of after-school or weekend activities and programs available for their children. Moreover, in many cases parents can register and pay on-line for these activities through The Kid Scoop website.

"This service is like having a personal assistant who weeds through thousands of activities and sends you a report to match your child's profile. Becoming a member is free and we don't bombard you with irrelevant or unnecessary information," Fagen stresses.

"Parents don't have the time to search and stand in line for hours to organize activities and classes," Fagen says. "It's a win-win situation for parents and local activity providers, such as sports organizations." The website also offers parents deals from participating partners, called Super Scoop Daily Deals, including discounts at local family-friendly retailers and tickets for special family activities and events. The Scoop Café, a digital magazine, provides parents with insightful articles on issues pertinent to raising children.

The Kid Scoop is part of the new generation of hyper local websites that specialize in content in a well-defined community scale area. Searchable databases focus on information and services specifically geared to local residents.

"Technology has changed how companies market to parents," Fagen says. "Reconciling the balance between work and family is challenging, and The Kid Scoop can reduce the stress of organizing a family's activities."

The Kid Scoop is accessible via multiple platforms, including social media sites and soon to be on mobile devices.
