    Library > General

Saul-Bellow Library was originally built in 1974 to the plans of architects Roux, Morin and Langlois of Lachine, and inaugurated on January 22, 1975 with Mayor Guy Descary and members of the municipal Council present. In 1980, a mezzanine, meeting room (Hopkins Room), depository and outdoor terrace (demolished in 1994) were added to the building. In June 1984, the Library changed its name, and from then on has been known as the Saul-Bellow Municipal Library in honour of the celebrated writer and 1976 Nobel Prize laureate. A project to enlarge and redevelop the facility is now underway and scheduled for completion in 2013.
